How to Make Your Own Homemade Bath Bombs

"Some days I just need to take a step back and take some time for me, Be me, Love me, Pamper me, Nurture me, and Recharge my soul." Karen Kostyla

Made with coconut oil, baking soda and other natural ingredients, these bath bombs will turn your bath into a luxurious, at home, spa experience.

When dropped into the bath water, you get aroma therapy and skin softener all in one.

Ingredients used for the bath bombs:

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup citric acid (I found my citric acid at my local farm store in the canning section)
  • 1/2 cup corn starch
  • 1/2 cup mineral salts (I used sea salt)
  • 4 and a 1/2 tablespoons coconut oil.
  • 3 to 5 drops essential oil (Use more drops if you want a stronger smell)
  • A spray bottle of water
  • Food coloring (I used beet powder) Otherwise, use 3 to 5 drops of food coloring

You will need a large mixing bowl, a mold to press the mixture in to, I used a muffin pan (but any pretty mold will do), and a mixing utensil, I used a whisk, but a fork will do nicely.

In your bowl combine all of the dry ingredients. Mix well. These ingredients are dusty. If you desire, wear a face mask or handkerchief to prevent dust from entering your nose. I did get some citric acid in my nose. It was somewhat uncomfortable.

Once the dry goods are mixed, add your coconut oil. Add a tablespoon at a time. In other words, add the coconut oil, then blend it together, then another tablespoon of coconut oil, until you have added all of the coconut oil.

The mixture should have the consistency of damp sand and when a handful is squeezed together, it should look like this:

Lightly spritz some water from the water bottle on to the mixture. Use the same method as when you added the coconut oil to the mixture. A spritz of water, then mix together the ingredients, and so forth. The water will bubble, but that is fine, we want to minimize the fizzing while getting the mixture damp enough to mold. Without the water, the bath bombs just crumble. You will be adding approximately 2 tablespoons of water. This amount will depend on the humidity.

Once all of the ingredients are combined, press the mixture in to your mold.

Let the bath bombs sit until it is dry to the touch. This depends on how humid or dry it is in your home. I let the mixture sit for about an hour.

After drying, remove the bath bombs from the mold.

Allow to dry for a few minutes.

Once dry, you are able to package your bath bombs.

Give as gifts or enjoy a luxurious home spa treatment yourself.
