$5 Goodwill Challenge: Spring Edition

The rules for this challenge is to visit your local thrift store and only spend $5.00 on Spring items. I had such a good time participating in the Goodwill Christmas Challenge  that I decided to venture to my local Goodwill and see what I could find for this $5.00 Spring Challenge.

$5.00 Goodwill Spring Edition Challenge
These pretty flowers just say Spring is here.

These two items just shouted Spring to me.

I first discovered the cute picture frame with the prettiest daisy on the front. The price for the frame was $2.99. The bright yellow and pale green colors of the frame brighten up the shelf where I displayed my new frame and photograph.

I have open shelves in my kitchen. When I spotted this Corning Ware bowl, priced at $1.99, I knew that this would replace the blue bowl that had been on the kitchen shelf most of the winter.

The total cost for both items, before taxes, was $4.98.

I have so much fun with these challenges. They make me step out of my comfort zone and look at items differently. I never would have looked twice at either of these items because I have plenty of picture frames and bowls that I do not need to purchase more of them. But the Spring look to each of these items allowed me an inexpensive way to add a new touch of Spring to my decor.

Now to you-

Have you found any Spring finds at your Thrift Stores?

  1. That's so funny, thrifting is on my list for today. I usually do not have luck, our thrift stores are pretty lame and very overpriced, but if I find something good for under $5, I'll come back and let you know! ;)

    1. Our are becoming overpriced also. I was interested in a beautiful bowl with yellow flowers. But they wanted $7.99. Over my $5 budget. They do have half off on certain tags. I can wait!

  2. Actually, I don't "thrift"... Nor do I do garage sales. Or flea markets. Or etc.

Somehow, I got passed over, when that "thrifting gene" was being passed out. I didn't get the memo. -grin-

And I know, I am very different from most of gals in 'Pretty Blog Land'. :-)))))))

  3. Oh can I add another bit????

It's not hippity-happy, in regard to the usually very hippity-happy topic of "thrifting"......

Now most "thrifting," is about items like you picked up, just pretty or cute, not necessities.

But something I read once, which has stuck with me is.... If well off people buy useable clothing or other needed-by-poor-people items, it takes those things, out of the hands of poor people, as it were. If well off ladies, who are just "thrifting" for fun.... Buy a "great blouse"... For little money... Some poor person, who needs that blouse, will not have it available to her.

-sigh- I know. Not a usual happy-thrifting thought. But it struck me. And it stuck with me.

    1. Buying from Goodwill and Salvation Army helps support my local economy. By providing jobs for people. I would rather spend my money on places such as this than the big box stores such as Walmart.

  5. I agree with you about choosing to spend money at the thrift stores instead of big box stores, Kathy. From what I have seen, there is plenty enough to go around. And the items we find thrifting are more original...it's fun to find something that someone else has discarded and give it new life :)

    1. Good point. Julie. Someone else has decided to donate it and I will absolutely give it new life. Plus I intend to donate the old picture frame. Thus continuing the circle. And yes there is plenty to go around. Our Salvation Army was so filled with donations, people could not drive through the drop off.
Thank you for your sweet comment!

  7. I think I need to spell check when I am watching a winter weather warning on tv and trying to type at the sane time--thus the deleted comment. lol
Anyway, those were both great finds for a good price. You had 2cents to spare--didn't they have a penny gumball machine?;>) You did good! xo Diana
