How to Make Your Own Ribbon Paperclips for Planners

Make your own ribbon paperclips

I have noticed these ribbon paperclips on Instagram quite often lately. Even though I have created some ribbon paperclips in the past, I liked how these paperclips resembled tassels. So, I chose ribbon and twine in Spring colors and created these paperclips with the exact same technique that I used previously. However, this style was a bit more difficult to work with because of the extra ribbon needed to create the tassel. But with a few twists and tugs, these ribbon paperclips are very easy to create.

For this project you will need-

Items needed

Ribbon and twine

Paperclips

Scissors, not shown

I cut each ribbon and twine to approximately 6 inches.

Gather together all of the ribbon and twine. Fold in half and place through the paperclip.

This step is tricky. With one hand hold on to the tail of the folded strip. With your index finger on your other hand, push the folded end open to form a loop. Bring the tail down through the top of the loop and pull up. This will tighten the ribbon and create the loop around the end of the paperclip.

I am using the photo with the single ribbon from a previous post to best illustrate how this is done. 

With the extra strings of ribbon, twisting and pushing the ribbon and twine through the opening is difficult. Some of the twine will get left out of the loop. I pulled and twisted, eventually everything came together nicely.

To keep the ribbon secured to the paperclip, I wrapped twine close to the top of the knot and secured tightly with a double knot.

You can cut off the extra twine, but I liked the look of the tassel with the extra twine. 

Now, you have created ribbon paperclip tassels for your planner. What a pretty Spring addition.
