Traveling Woes

Road trips are fun when things go as planned. But let a water pump freeze up half way to the destination, not much fun. Even though we had no power steering, my husband was able to drive us safely to a parking lot. Here, we had to find a tow truck and garage to fix the car. Plus, this all took place in the middle of a rain storm.

Do you remember the days when gas stations had garages attached to them? Get gas and get your oil changed. Those types of service centers are few and far between.

We did eventually find a tow truck that towed us to a dealership garage. The garage replaced the fuel pump and four hours after the water pump decided to freeze up, we were in our car and traveling once again to our destination. I just want to add that we received wonderful service. The mechanic stayed passed quitting time to make sure our car was repaired and safe to travel once again.

We had a wonderful visit with family while visiting Arkansas.

The trip home was quite uneventful, for which we are most thankful.

I want to share a few pictures that I took on our trip home.

We arrived home safely and 30 degrees cooler from the start of our 9 hour trip.

We really needed a cupcake after our breakdown.

Let me know in the comments below, any of your eventful traveling experiences.

  1. Glad the trip was uneventful, after the breakage. ,-)

Yes, I remember old time gas and garages!

My husband was stationed in Arkansas, when he graduated college and did Reserve Duty. He enjoyed his time in that state.

    1. We were blessed Kim, if my husband had taken the left turn instead of turning right, we would have been on an interstate instead of in a town.

  3. We had several breakdowns when our kids were little and we had older vehicles. I wonder, looking back, how we even dared start out in them sometimes. lol Glad you little adventure turned out okay though. xo Diana

  6. I love that picture of the gas station. It wasn't that long ago that we had that kind of service. Sad, huh?

Anyway, I'm sorry about your car troubles, but I hope you had a good time despite them :)

    1. It is very sad. Those gas stations were commonplace, not so much anymore. But we had wonderful service and everyone at the dealership was helpful. We did have a fun visit and uneventful trip home. :)
